During the excavation of an ancient site, following items were discovered
1. Gold Coins with the image of the ruler on one side and his associated deity or his/her ayudha on the other side.
2. Panchayatana style temples
3. Buddha sculptures in Sarnath and Mathura styles
Based on the given information identify the dynasty or ruler to which the above mentioned site might belong to
The Shaka rulers
The Mauryan empire
The Satvahanas
The Gupta empire
The above statements are related to Gupta Empire. The Gupta Empire produced large numbers of gold coins depicting the Gupta kings performing various rituals, as well as silver coins clearly influenced by those of the earlier Western Satraps by Chandragupta II. Gold Coins with the image of the ruler on one side and his associated deity or his/her ayudha on the other side belongs to Gupta period only. Panchayatana is an architectural style where the main shrine is built on a rectangular plinth with four smaller subsidiary shrines at the four corners and making it a total of five shrines – i.e., Pancha. Example- The Dashavatara Temple or Vishnu Temple also called Gupta temple at Deogarh. It was built in the Gupta Period (320 to c. 600 AD). Archaeologists have inferred that it is the earliest known Panchayatana temple in North India. Under the patronage of the Guptas, Mathura and Sarnath produced several works of great merit. Though Hindu by faith, they were tolerant rulers. The magnificent red sandstone image of the Buddha from Mathura is a remarkable example of Gupta workmanship datable to the 5th century A.D.
