Composting is nature's process of recycling decomposed organic materials into a rich soil known as compost. Anything that was once living will decompose Composting can reduce the volume of waste to landfill/dumpsite by converting the waste into useful by-products. This also prevents production of harmful greenhouse gases (especially methane) and toxic material that pollutes groundwater apart from polluting the environment. As Organic matter in landfills is a prime cause of emissions of methane into the atmosphere (a 23 times worse greenhouse gas than CO2). City Waste composting would also generate employment in urban areas. It is used in gardens, landscaping, horticulture, and agriculture. The compost itself is beneficial for the land in many ways, including as a soil conditioner, a fertilizer, addition of vital humus or humic acids, and as a natural pesticide for soil. In ecosystems, compost is useful for erosion control, land and stream reclamation, wetland construction, and as landfill cover (see compost uses). Organic ingredients intended for composting can alternatively be used to generate biogas through anaerobic digestion.
