Which of the following is/are techniques of 'Asexual Reproduction'?
1. Binary Fission
2. Budding
3. Regeneration
4. Vegetative propagation
Select the correct answer using codes given below
1,2 and 4 only
1 and 3 only
2, 3 and 4 only
All of the above
- In the process of binary fission, an organism duplicates its genetic material, or deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), and then divides into two parts (cytokinesis), with each new organism receiving one copy of DNA. Budding is a type of asexual reproduction where a small part of the body of the parent organism grows out of a small project, a bud which detaches to develop into a new organism. The newly developed organism remains attached as it grows further. It separated from the parent organism when it gets matured by leaving scar tissues behind. As this is an asexual reproduction, the newly developed organism is a replica of the parent and is genetically identical. Regeneration may be defined as the ability of an organism to grow its lost parts. This method of asexual reproduction is found in protozoa, sponges, hydra, earthworms and starfish. In this method if any part or arm of starfish cuts from the main body then this fragment can develop into a complete animal by growing its missing parts. Asexual or vegetative propagation of plants is that form of plant propagation in which the new individual arises from any vegetative part of the parent (root, stem, leaf, etc.), and possesses exactly the same characteristics of the parent plant from which it was sampled.
