1. In India marine fish catch is higher than inland fish production.
2. In case of marine fisheries, west coast of India produces more fish than east coast.

4. Marine fishing in India is seasonal in nature.
Select the correct answer using codes given below
1,2 and 3 only
2 and 3 only
2 and 4 only
All of above
It is true that west coast contributes more to fishing than East coast. The West Coast in India experiences significant upwelling during the southwest monsoon period, resulting in abundant phytoplankton and zooplankton. Also the east coast is frequently hit by natural calamities like cyclones thereby disturbing the fisheries as well as fishing infrastructure. So much so that west coast contributes 75% of total marine fish production and east coast contributes only 25%. Marine fishing in India is a seasonal phenomenon. Strong winds during the monsoon season accompanied by tropical cyclones often hinder the fishing operation. India is a tropical country and as such the tropical fish are less in demand in global market due to their sour taste. Also lack of proper storage infrastructure contributes to fish turning sour easily.
