Consider the following statements about Oceans of the world and identify the correct one/ones
1. The mean sea level of all the oceans is same because of the equal gravitational pull from sun and moon on all oceans.
2. The maximum temperature in oceans is found at the equator due to maximum insolation.
3. Generally speaking, west coasts of continents in tropical and sub-tropical latitudes are washed by cold currents and eastern coasts by warm currents
Select the correct answer using codes given bel
1 and 2 only
1 and 3 only
3 only
All of the above
Generally speaking, west coasts of continents in tropical and sub-tropical latitudes are washed by cold currents and eastern coasts by warm currents. The west coasts of continents in middle and high latitudes are generally washed by warm ocean currents. It is not due to gravitational pull but all the oceans of world are connected thereby ensuring same water level across all oceans. The highest temperatures are not recorded at equator as equator receives less insolation due to cloudiness. Also there is constant addition of cooler waters due to rains. So temperatures north of the equator show higher temperatures than those in south due to more contact with landmass in north.
