In sep 2017 Researchers exploring the waters of the Pampa river of Kerela have chanced upon a new species of edible freshwater fish that could possibly be farmed on a commercial scale. It is scientifically named as Labeo filiferus. It belongs to Labeo genus, the same genus to which Rohu (Labeo Rohita) belongs which is also most abundantly used fish in aquaculture in India.
