This July was 200th anniversary of Paika Rebellion that took place in 1817. Paikas were the traditional landed militia of Odisha and performed policy functions. The rebellion was led by Bakshi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar who was the military chief of the king of Khurda. They owned rent-free land that was given to them for their military service to Kingdom of Khurda. However they were forcefully usurped their land rendering them landless by the policies of British East India Company, this was the cause of the revolt. Hence, both the statements are correct and answer is (c.).
