Consider the following statements about India’s monsoon prediction system:
1. The current monsoon prediction relies on ensemble method.
2. It includes simulating the weather on powerful supercomputers and extrapolating it on timeframes.
Which of the above statement is correct?
1 only
2 only
Both 1 and 2
Neither 1 nor 2
At present the Indian Meteorological Department or IMD predicts monsoon forecasts using Ensemble Model. Ensemble model is a statistical technique that uses six meteorological values correlated to monsoon such as sea surface temperature of the Pacific, North Atlantic sea level pressure etc. However, the IMD now intends to shift the dynamical model. Dynamical model works by simulating the weather on powerful supercomputers and extrapolating it over timeframes. Dynamical model is also known as Coupled Forecast System Version 2. Hence, answer is A.
