Context: The Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education has launched a scheme today to train and mentor young authors. 
About YUVA

• Termed YUVA (Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors), the Prime Minister’s scheme seeks to mentor authors under the age of 30 and train them to promote reading, writing and book culture in the country, and project India and Indian writings globally.
• The launch of YUVA (Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors) is in tune with PM’s vision to encourage young authors to write about India’s freedom struggle.
• YUVA is part of India@75 Project (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) to bring to the fore the perspectives of young writers on themes like unsung heroes, freedom fighters and their role in the national movement, and other related themes in an innovative and creative manner. 
• The scheme will thus help develop a stream of authors who can write on a spectrum of subjects to promote Indian heritage, culture, and knowledge system.
• The books prepared under the scheme will be published by National Book Trust and will also be translated into other Indian languages to ensure exchange of culture and literature. 
• The selected young authors will interact with some of the best authors in the world and participate in literary festivals.

Key Criteria

• 75 authors to be selected through all-India contest from June 1 to July 31
• The winners will be announced on Aug 15
• Will be trained by eminent authors
• Manuscripts to be readied for publication by December 15
• Published books to be launched on January 12, 2022, on National Youth Day (Yuva Diwas)
• Scholarship of Rs50,000 per month to be paid to winners for six months.
