Integrated guided missile development Programme was started in 1982-83 . Four project ,to be pursued concurre-
   ntly,were born under the IGMDP:
   1.short range surface to surface missile (code name-prithvi)
   2.Short range low level surface to air Missile (trishul)
   3.Medium range surface to air missile (akash)
   4.Third generation anti tank missile (nag)
   The agni missile was initially conceived In the IGMDP as a technology demonst- rator project in the form of re -entry vehicle and was later upgraded ballistic missile with different ranges.
