Context: Recently, Union Health Minister approved the ‘National Policy for Rare Diseases 2021’ which aims to lower the high cost of treatment for rare diseases, with increased focus on indigenous research and local production of medicines. About Rare Diseases
Note: It is estimated that there are about 7000 rare diseases. Most of the rare diseases (about 80%) are genetic and hence affects a large number of children.
