The beaches are formed by ‘Longshore drift’ i.e. the waves that approach the beaches obliquely at an angle under the influence of the prevailing dominant wind.
The waves that approach directly are more effective as agents of erosion than deposition.

The coarser materials are dropped by the waves (swash) at the top of the beach. The finer materials are carried down the beach by the backwash and deposited closer to the sea.
