The Great Indian Bustard inhabits the dry grasslands of the region and is facing extinction due to destruction of its habitat (encroachment for agriculture). Generally grasslands are not classified as forests and hence can be encroached upon easily. The Wildlife Institute of India is formulating a plan to save the habitat as well as the bird.
