The Olive Ridley Turtles are Marine turtles that are not native to any landmass and continuously roam the tropical waters of the Pacific and India is their largest nesting site. (Gahirmatha and Rusukuliya). They have been classified as vulnerable due to their dwindling numbers. The reasons behind this are- • Destruction of their nesting sites due to sand mining. • Harvesting of eggs • Death on being caught in fishing nets (they can’t come up to breathe) and unavailability of Turtle Excluder Devices.
