Consider the following statements about Anupam Verma committee and identify the incorrect one.
The committee was constituted to recommend on the ban or phasing out of Pesticides that have been banned by other countries but are still being used in India.
The committee recommended complete ban on 13 extremely dangerous pesticides.
It also recommended ban on ‘Endosulfan’ that caused widespread poisoning in Kerala a few years back.
Apart from this the committee recommended phasing out of 6 other pesticides by 2020.
The third statement is incorrect as the review on Endosulfan was not within the purview of the committee as the matter was before Supreme Court and the Supreme Court ordered pan India ban on it. Endosulfan was used in cashew plantations despite it being banned by 80 countries worldwide and it caused mass scale poisoning in Kerala. Some of the chemicals recommended for ban by the committee are used in horticulture crops and cereals on a large scale.
