Consider the following statements about the presence of fluoride in groundwater.
1. WHO have fixed the standard for clean drinking water which can have 1.5 mg/L of fluoride.
2. Fluoride is not required for human body
3. The only source of fluoride in ground water is presence of fluoride in rocks.
Select the correct answer using codes given below
1 only
2 and 3 only
1 and 3 only
All of the above
Fluoride is very essential for bones and teeth but its requirement is in very small quantities. Naturally the fluoride in rocks gets dissolved in water as it comes in contact with them. But man-made discharge of fluoride through industrial effluents (phosphate industry mainly) is also causing fluoride contamination. Fluoride excess in body leads to skeletal fluorosis that leads to deformation and crippling of bones.
