Yoga is one of the six systems of Indian philosophy. It says that salvation is attained by methods of devotional exercise and mental discipline. Patanjali is its propounder. International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 11 December 2014.[1] Yoga is a physical, mental, and/or spiritual practice attributed mostly to India. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.

I disagree that attaining salvation is one of the aims of yoga. Kindly check your sources carefully.
Yoga literally means the union of two principal entities. Yogic techniques control body, mind & sense organs, thus considered as a means of achieving freedom or mukti.
