Jewel weeds is another name for Impatiens plants or Balsams. They were in news as two new critically endangered species of balsams were found in Eravikulam National Park. They are named as Impatiens mankulamensis and Impatiens panduranganii. They were discovered from Sholar forests and Mankulam forests. These plants bear flowers in the rainy season from July to October and the flowers are white in colour with pink borders. They are found in forests where there is high moisture content and relative humidity.
