The Poona Pact was the agreement between Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Br Ambedkar reached on 25 September 1932. The major points in this pact were as follows: 148 seats were to be allotted to the depressed classes in the provincial legislatures. This was more than double from the 71 seats as promised in the Communal Award. Certain percentage of the seats allotted to the general Non-Muslim electorate would be reserved for the depressed classes. Congress agreed that adequate representation would be given to the depressed classes in the civil services. The depressed classes agreed to adhere to the principle of Joint Electorate.
