Context: The Prime Minister of India is going to inaugurate the 20th edition of the World Sustainable Development Summit 2021 which will be held in between 10th to 12th February 2021.
About the Summit

• The theme of the 2021 Summit: Redefining our common future: Safe and secure environment for all. 
• Organised by: The Energy and Resources Institute’s (TERI). 
• Key partners: Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Ministry of Earth Sciences. 

Objective

• The summit aims at providing long-term solutions for the benefits of the global community post the signing of the Paris Agreement and the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Taking a step in a direction of achieving constructive action in combating issues that are significant to the future of humanity by bringing together various stakeholders on a single platform.

Significance

• The Summit will bring together a wide number of governments, business leaders, academicians, climate scientists, youth, and the civil society in the fight against climate change. 
• The range of topics to be discussed during the Summit - Energy and industry transition, adaptation and resilience, nature based solutions, climate finance, circular economy, clean oceans and air pollution.

About World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS)

• It is the annual flagship event that is organised by the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
• The summit is organised with the aim of providing the long-term solutions to benefit the global community.
• It seeks to benefit by assembling various stakeholders on a single platform to initiate a step for the constructive action to combat the issues of the future of humanity.
• The summit is organised in accordance with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
