Explanation:
SAMEER App is one of the air pollution mitigation measures which provides hourly updates on the National Air Quality Index (AQI).
The app is developed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) which provides information on air quality for more than 100 cities across the country.
Colour coding: The listed cities are colour-coded, based on their AQI levels. For example, the city in ‘Severe’ AQI category will be maroon, while the one in the ‘Moderate’ category will be yellow.
The app can also be used to file or track complaints related to garbage dumping, road dust, vehicular emissions or other pollution issues in a particular area.
Air Quality Index has been developed by the CPCB in consultation with IIT-Kanpur and an expert group comprising medical and air-quality professionals. The index is published by CPCB.
AQI is calculated for eight major air pollutants: Ground-level ozone, PM10, PM2.5, Carbon monoxide, Sulphur dioxide, Nitrogen dioxide, Ammonia, Lead.
