1. A mudflow or mud flow is a form of mass wasting involving "very rapid to extremely rapid surging flow" of debris that has become partially or fully liquified by the addition of significant amounts of water to the source material.
2. Solifluction, flowage of water-saturated soil down a steep slope. Because permafrost is impermeable to water, soil overlying it may become oversaturated and slide downslope under the pull of gravity.
3. In geology, creep is the slow downward movement of materials. This slow movement of soil is not associated with erosion. It may occur on all sorts of slopes including those that are covered with vegetation. The steady downflow of soil and rock carries the vegetation with it. Creep may be caused by the growth of plant roots, the burrowing of small animals or trampling of larger creatures, frost movement, or successive drying and wetting that leads to shrinkage and swelling of the soil.
4. An earthflow (earth flow) is a downslope viscous flow of fine-grained materials that have been saturated with water and moves under the pull of gravity. It is an intermediate type of mass wasting that is between downhill creep and mudflow.
