Report on Currency and Finance (RCF) is released by the RBI. First published in 1937, the RCF adopted a theme-based approach from 1998-99. After a hiatus between 2014 and 2019, the Report has been revived with this release. The theme of the Report is “Reviewing the Monetary Policy Framework” which assumes topical relevance in the context of the review of the inflation target by March 2021 against the backdrop of structural changes in the macroeconomic and financial landscape that have prompted several central banks to undertake policy framework reviews.
The Economic Survey is prepared by the Economics Division of the Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry under the overall guidance of the chief economic adviser and is released after it is approved by the finance minister.
The WPI is published by the Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. An upward surge in the WPI print indicates inflationary pressure in the economy and vice versa. The quantum of rise in the WPI month-after-month is used to measure the level of wholesale inflation in the economy.
National Accounts Division of CSO, Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation brings out various Publications, like National Accounts Statistics, containing time series data on national income and related macroeconomic aggregates. The methodology of compilation, data sources used etc are well documented and made available in public domain.
The Central Statistics Office (under MoSPI) coordinates the statistical activities in the country and evolves statistical standards. It is headed by a Director General assisted by 5 Additional Director Generals. CSO has the following Divisions: a.National Accounts Division (NAD) b.Social Statistics Division (SSD) c.Economic Statistics Division (ESD) d.Training Division e.Coordination and Publications Division (CAP)
