Nuclear-capable hypersonic missile ‘Shaurya’

Context: Recently, India test-fired nuclear capable missile in Odisha's Balasore coast.
Specifications of Shaurya Missiles:.

  • Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), The Missile can be launched from the canister launcher the same as Super-Sonic Brahmos.
  • Shaurya is 10-meter-long in length and half a meter in Thick. Powered by the solid propellant which intern gives the missile a longer service life. As the range of over 700 Km and travel 6 times the speed of sound.
  • ‘Shaurya’, which is the land variant of Indias K-15 missile, has a strike range of 700 km to 1000 km and is capable of carrying payloads of 200 kg to 1000 kg.

Features

  • The Missile is said to have many unique features which given an added advantage during operations and maintenance as well.
  • Powered by the two-stage rocket motors, fuelled by the solid propellant, it can travel at 6 times the speed of sound. 
  • Shaurya Missiles are designed in a way it turns out to be a mutant between a ballistic missile and a cruise missile.
  • Shaurya uses Solid propellent like a ballistic missile but can find and hit the targets on its own as a cruise missile does.
  • Shaurya as one of the top 10 missiles in the world in its class with its high performance navigation and guidance systems, efficient propulsion systems, sophisticated control technologies and canisterised launch
