Which industrial waste is commonly used in construction industry?
Fly ash
Slag
Sludge
Red oxide
The industrial wastes (fly ash, red mud, copper slag and silica fumes) have already been tried in the application of cement production and partial replacement of construction materials in civil engineering field. Fly ash is a fine powder which is a byproduct from burning pulverized coal in electric generation power plants. Fly ash is a pozzolan, a substance containing aluminous and siliceous material that forms cement in the presence of water. When mixed with lime and water it forms a compound similar to Portland cement. The fly ash produced by coal-fired power plants provide an excellent prime material used in blended cement, mosaic tiles, and hollow blocks among others. Fly ash includes substantial amounts of silicon dioxide (SiO2) (both amorphous and crystalline), aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and calcium oxide (CaO), the main mineral compounds in coal- bearing rock strata
