Tappa is a form of Indian semi-classical vocal music. Its specialty is its rolling pace based on fast, subtle and knotty construction. Its tunes are melodious, sweet and depict the emotional outbursts of a lover. Tappe (plural) were sung mostly by songstresses, known as Baigees, in royal courts. The Tappa consists of the song uttered in fast note patterns. It is a difficult Composition and needs much practice. Both the Thumriand Tappa requires special training as do the Dhrupad and Khyal forms of singing. Ragas in Which Tappa compositions are set remain same as in Thumri style. Pt. L.K. Pandit, Malini Rajurkar are names who specialize this form of singing.
