Mughal Empire, an Islamic empire that lasted in India from 1526 to 1857 left a mark on Indian architecture that was a mix of Islamic, Persian, Turkish, Arabic, Central Asian and native Indian architecture. A major aspect of Mughal architecture is the symmetrical nature of buildings and courtyards. Bijapur Gol Gumbaz is situated in Karnataka, a southern state in India. The Gol Gumbaz history traces back to the 17th century. Gol Gumbaz is a mausoleum of Mohammad Adil Shah and also includes mosque in it. He was buried near his spiritual teacher Hazrat Hashim peer Dastageer’s tomb. Islamic aniconism stems in part from the prohibition of idolatry and in part from the belief that creation of living forms is God's prerogative. Although the Quran does not explicitly prohibit visual representation of any living being, it uses the word musawwir (maker of forms, artist) as an epithet of God. Pietra Dura- also called as Parchin Kari is an inlay technique of pictorial mosaic work using cut and fitted, highly polished semi-precious stones as decorative art. Image.
