Surya Sen was a school teacher from Naopoara in Chittagong (Bangladesh). Inspired by one of his teachers, he joined the Anushilan Samity, a revolutionary organisation founded by another Bengali revolutionary – Sarat Chandra Basu, which propounded violence as the means for ending British rule in India. Sen is famous for his contribution in Indian Freedom Struggle through Chittagong Armoury Raid. He gathered like minded revolutionaries including: Anant Singh, Ganesh Gosh, Loknath Baul and decided to organise rebellion in Chittagong and also dislocating communication of Chittagong with rest of the country.
