Swadeshi Movement was started as a reaction to partition of Bengal in 1905. Swadeshi Movement meant use of indegenous goods and boycott foreign goods. "Swa" means own, "Desh" meaning country. It provided stimulus to: handloom weaving industry; TISCO was founded in 1907; Bengal Chemical factory by P.C. Ray. Rabindra nath tagore wrote " Amar sonar bengal". During Swadeshi Movement, Bengal National College was founded with Auribindo Ghosh as its principal. Swadeshi Movement was not confined to bengal, Tilak also used this movement to popularise traditional festivals thereby giving S.M a national character.
