An Indian poet, publicist, author, and social reformer best known for his ardent advocacy for the protection of the rights of women, his relentless work were rewarded by the enactment of the Age of Consent Act (1891). Later he founded Seva Sadan. He was associated with “Indian Spectator”. He was:

Raja Ram Mohan Roy is considered to be the "Father of the Bengal Renaissance". In 1815, he started Atmiya Sabha, a philosophical discussion circle in Kolkata. In 1828, he founded Brahmo Samaj. Roy was against idol worship,polygamy, child marriage and sati.
B.M. Malabari was a Parsi. In 1885, he founded Seva Sadan- dedicated to the welfare of the socially vulnerable, especially women. He was also against child marriage and forced widowhood.Malabari's reforming position influenced India's passage of the Age of Consent Act in 1891. In 1893, he published ‘The Indian Eye on English Life; or, Rambles of a Pilgrim Reformer’, which chronicled his journey and observations of British life. In 1875, he published ‘Nitivinod’ (Pleasure of Morality), 'The Indian Muse in English Garb' in 1877.
Brahmo Samaj split in 1866 and Keshav Chandra Sen started Brahmo Samaj of India. However, he married off his own minor daughter to Maharaja of Cooch Behar.
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagara introduced the practice of widow remarriage and worked against polygamy.
