Consider the following about the powers and responsibilities of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC):

1) It can initiate disciplinary proceedings against public servants on a complaint registered by the public.

2) It can order the CBI to investigate particular cases forwarded by it.

Which of the above is/are correct?

CVC is an apex Indian governmental body created in 1964 to address governmental corruption.

Statement 1: It has the status of an autonomous body, free of control from any executive authority. But, it is only an advisory body, it cannot initiate an action on its own. It can forward its findings to the government on which the government initiates proceedings.

Statement 2: The CVC has sought details from public sector banks about all fraud reported by them to the CBI since 2001.
