Consider the following statements.
1) Indian Parliamentary democracy is based on the British Parliamentary model.
2) Indian Parliament is considered a sovereign body as per the Indian Constitution.
Which of the above is/are correct?
1 only
2 only
Both 1 and 2
None
Even though, Indian Parliament is based on the British model, the Parliament is sovereign in Britain, whereas it is not sovereign in India. It is the Indian state that is sovereign. This is because British parliament does not function based on an explicitly written constitution and can even amend the constitutional laws of the country at will. On the other hand, the Indian Parliament is bound by a written constitution and judicial review. It can amend the constitution, but in so far that it does not alter its basic principles
