Article 14 has two parts: equality before law and equal protection of laws. The first concept basically means law is for everyone whoever it might be. That all people are subject to the same laws of justice (due process), and therefore, the law must guarantee that no individual nor group of individuals should be privileged or discriminated against by the government. Equality before the law is one of the basic principles of liberalism. The second concept means law will apply equally to equally situated people. For e.g. if an old adult receives a punishment of 5 years imprisonment, another old adult for the same crime and same circumstances should also get 5 years of imprisonment.
