The CAG conducts both regularity audit and efficiency-cumperformance audit of the governments at the centre and states. The CAG is the head of the Supreme Audit Institution of India (SAI) and derives his duties and powers largely from Articles 149 to 151 of the Constitution of India and the CAG (Duties, Powers and Conditions of Service) Act, 1971. The CAG is appointed by the President and can only be removed from office in like manners and similar grounds as a judge of the Supreme Court.
