India’s Covid diplomacy at one of worst global crisis of recent decades is enabling Delhi to emerge as a responsible and reliable international power at a time when many established international actors have floundered. While neighboring countries are getting shipments of paracetamol and hydroxychloroquinine, the government has also removed exports of Covid-19 drugs to countries such as the US, Spain, Brazil, Bahrain, Germany and the United Kingdom under commercial agreements signed with Indian pharmaceutical companies.
Key Points regarding its Medical Diplomacy in wake of Covid-19

• India has become a symbol of resilience and hope in the world which has shown that despite a relatively low literacy rate and poverty, its unique diversity is its strength.
• The world has witnessed the power of a billion-plus people working with single-minded determination to defeat the coronavirus.
• India export HCQ and other drugs used for treating COVID-19 patients to more than a dozen countries under two categories - humanitarian aid and commercial supply.
• India, dubbed "the pharmacy of the world", has drawn praise for the decision to export pharmaceuticals to some African and Latin American countries on humanitarian grounds.
• India’s diplomacy has played major role in managing the crisis, be in evacuating the distress people or following the pandemic minute by minute or settling immediate and complicated issues including facilitating evacuation of stranded foreign nationals in India.
• As a global leader, the PM took the initiative and gave direction to the discussions on fighting the pandemic on forums like SAARC and G20.

• While India expands its global diplomatic footprint in the post COVID-19 world, the disease is ,in parallel, raising the geopolitical profile of other Eurasian powers — in particular countries like South Korea, Japan, China and Russia — which are exercising leadership in combating the outbreak. 
• In South Korea, active communication and aggressive testing played a big role in combating the pandemic. In Japan, ingrained habits, such as wearing masks helped in containing the virus.
• This visible power shifts exposed by the pandemic demand that India renews its engagement with China in developing the Eurasia-led post-COVID 19 world order. 
• But at the same time riding on its “strategic autonomy” doctrine, New Delhi has to hedge its power asymmetry with Beijing by carefully calibrating a relationship, especially with Japan, which has been seeking a more autonomous regional role for itself, despite its post-war alliance with Washington.

Road Ahead

• In the After Corona( ‘A.C) world’, New Delhi needs to expand its cooperation programs into a global effort: Engage in the multilateral development of solutions to global policy challenges; and share lessons and experiences to progressively strengthen public systems and state institutions worldwide.
