Explanation : • Government recently has granted final approval to National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Kalinganagar, Jajpur district, Odisha. • The Government of India had notified the National Manufacturing Policy (NMP) in 2011 with the objective of enhancing the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25% and creating 100 million jobs by 2022. • At least 30% of the total land area proposed for the NIMZ will be utilized for location of manufacturing units. • On receipt of final approval, the NIMZ will be declared by the State Government as an industrial township under Article 243(c) of the Constitution. • Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a specifically delineated duty free enclave and shall be deemed to be foreign territory for the purposes of trade operations and duties and tariffs in India. • India was one of the first in Asia to recognize the effectiveness of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) model in promoting exports, with Asia's first EPZ set up in Kandla in 1965. • With a view to overcome the shortcomings experienced on account of the multiplicity of controls and clearances; absence of world-class infrastructure, and an unstable fiscal regime and with a view to attract larger foreign investments in India, the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) Policy was announced in April 2000. • The Special Economic Zone Act, 2005 came into force with effect from 2006. NIMZ originated under National Manufacturing Policy, 2011 and SEZ under SEZ Act, 2005. Minimum area for NIMZ is 5000 hectare and for SEZ 10-1000 depending on sector. The NIMZ were created with an aim to boost manufacturing sector while SEZ aimed at boosting exports.
