The Bengal army mainly consisted of the soilders of high caste like Brahmin and Rajputs. Under the provisions of the Act, they could be sent overseas but Sea Voyage was against the accepted belief of upper Caste Hindus as crossing the sea meant loss of caste to them. So, the Indian troops considered the act as a disregard to their feeling.
