Select the correct answer from the following options:
1 and 2 only
2 and 3 only
1 and 3 only
1,2,3 all
Statement 1 is correct as under Indian rulers Sepoys ( Indian soldiers) were granted Jagirs for their meritorious deeds but under Company rule their was no such reward.
Statement 2 is also corrrect ,In 1856 Lord Canning enacted General Service Enlistment act,This provided that all the future recruit of the Bengal army should be ready for serve anywhere within or outside India. The Bengal army mainly consisted of the soilders of high caste like Brahmin and Rajputs. Under the provisions of the Act, they could be sent overseas but Sea Voyage was against the accepted belief of upper Caste Hindus as crossing the sea meant loss of caste to them. So, the Indian troops considered the act as a disregard to their feeling.
Statement 3 is also correct , Bengal Army mainly recruited the troops from Awadh but Awadh was annexed on the basis of mismanagement in 1856 by Company ,it was a utter disregard by the Company to the loyalty of sepoys( Indian soldiers). this annexation contributed to aggravate the resentment of sepoys.
