It provided for establishment of Supreme Court of Calcutta (Sadr-e-Nizamat), which was established in 1774 at Fort William in Bengal. The Supreme Court consiisted of a Chief Justice (Sir Elijah Impey) & 3 other judges (only British) to administer the British legal system used in India. By a subsequent Act of 1797, the no. of judges of the Supreme Court at Calcutta were reduced from 4 to 3.
