1. Directive Principles of State Policy aim to create social and economic conditions under which the citizens can lead a good life. They also aim to establish social and economic democracy through a welfare state. They act as a check on the government, theorised as a yardstick in the hands of the people to measure the performance of the government and vote it out of power if it does not fulfill the promises made during the elections.
2. DPSP's are like an instrument of instructions or general recommendations which are addressed to all authorities in the Indian Union. They remind them of the basic principles of the new social and economic order, which the Constitution aims at building. Though non-enforceable by any court, the Indian State is duty-bound to apply these principles while enacting laws.
