Raman was the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1930. He was also conferred the Bharat Ratna. In 1928, CV Raman wrote himself into history books by discovering evidence of the quantum nature of light, that came to be known as Raman Effect. The day of the discovery, 28th of February has since then been celebrated as the National Science Day in India.
