Mahatma Gandhi sat on fast unto death in 1932 because of announcement of separate electorates for anglo indians, sikhs, muslims and also for depressed sections I.e. SCs and STs, by the British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald on 16 August 1932. Fast was ended after Poona pact. The Poona Pact refers to an agreement between Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi signed on 24 September 1932 at Yerwada Central Jail inPune, India.
