ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) ,Bangalore ( 1969) provide the overall guidance and direction to the scientific, technological and managerial tasks. Program offices in specialized areas function as a part of the Central Management at ISRO Headquarters.

ISRO Establishments

• Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thumba, Trivandrum. Responsible for development of rocket launch vehicles and the pioneer in rocket research, the planning and execution of launch vehicle development projects.
• SHAR Centre, Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh). A launch complex and production centre of propellants. Satish Dhawan Space Centre; Sriharikota; earlier SHAR (Sriharikota High Altitude Range); renamed 2002., main launch centre of ISRO,
• ISC Satellite Centre (ISAC), Bangalore. Responsible for space - craft mainframe development. ,design, fabrication, testing and management of satellite systems for scientific, technological and application missions.
• Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad Main Centre for space applications and development of space-crafts payloads, practical applications of space technology. The principal areas of activity include satellite communication, remote sensing, and meteorology.
• Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), with its facilities located at Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore and Mahendragiri (Tamil Nadu), is the key centre for development of liquid propulsion system.
• Development and Educational Communication Unit (DECU), Ahmedabad. Produces developmental and educational television programs.
• ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) - Consists of five ground stations located at Sriharikota, Kovalpur, Trivandrum, Car Nicobar and Ahmedabad, with Headquarters at Bangalore. Its Satellite Control Centre (SCC) is located at Bangalore.
• Indian National Satellite space segment project office (INSAT-INSSPO). Responsible for implementation and operation of the space segment for INSAT, India’s multi-purpose domestic satellite system. Its Master Control Facility (MCF) for INSAT space - craft is located at Hassan in Karnataka.
• ISRO Inertial System Unit (IISU); Thiruvanthapuram

Launch Facilities

ISRO operates 3 launch stations:

• Thumba (TERLS - Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station/Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Kerala (10 miles to Trivandrum)),
• Sriharikota (SRLS - Shriharikota Rocket Launching Station/Satish Dhawan Space Center, Andhra Pradesh). The Shriharikota range is used for launch of satellites and multi-stage rockets. The launch station, has two launch pads including the newest Universal Launch Pad. The two launch pads allow the station to hold up to 6 launches per year.
• Balasore (Balasore Rocket Launching Station (BRLS), Orissa).

Other institutions

• The National Mesosphere, Stratosphere, Troposphere Reader Facility (NMRF) at Gadanki, near Tirupati is used by scientists for conducting atmospheric research.
• National Natural Resource Management System (NNRMS); HQ- Banglore
• National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA), Hyderabad. A grants-in-aid autonomous registered society under the Department of Space for utilizing the potential of remote sensing, mainly in the context of natural resources survey.
• Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad. A Grants-in-aid institution of the Department of Space to carry out research in space science.
• Regional Remote Sensing Service Centres (RRSSCs) at Banglore, Dehradun, Jodhpur, Kharagpur and Nagpur.
