The National Integration Council originated in a conference convened by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in September–October 1961. It was formed on 2nd June 1962. The Union Government set up the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1993. The National Commission for Women was set up as statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 to review the Constitutional and legal safeguards for women; recommend remedial legislative measures, facilitate redressal of grievances and advise the Government on all policy matters affecting women. The Inter State Council is an Indian constitutional body set up on the basis of provisions in Article 263 of the Constitution of India. The body was formed by a Presidential Order dated 28 May 1990 on recommendation of Sarkaria Commission.
