Union Ministry of Railways launched CORAS (Commando for Railway Security) of Indian Railways. It is separate Commando Unit of Railway Protection Force (RPF).

• Railway aims to develop world level capabilities of specialized responder for any situation pertaining to damage, disturbance, disruption of train/railway operations, attack/hijack/ hostage, disaster situations in railway areas.
• The force will provide fool proof security to Indian Railways and its users by following doctrine of graded response, minimum effective force.
• These CORAS commandos will be posted in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)/Insurgency/Terrorism affected Railway areas where providing security to passengers and railway network is of utmost priority.
