The International Youth Day is observed every year across world on 12 August to bring youth issues to attention of international community and celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society.

• The theme for this year is ‘Transforming education’.
• It seeks to highlight efforts to make education more accessible and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.
• It supports Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG) i.e. to ensure equitable quality and inclusive education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

It was instituted by UNGA based on the recommendation of World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth held in Lisbon (Portugal) from 8 to 12 August 1998.
