Which among the following animals has become extinct from India?
Snow Leopard
Niligiri Tahr
Himalayan Wolf
Asiatic Cheetah
Fourth option is correct. The Asiatic cheetah separated from the African Cheetah about 100,000 years ago. (Other sources claim around 67,000 years ago - there still is a lot of ambiguity over the exact time period.) And it became extinct in mid-20th century, about the time that India gained its independence in 1947. Snow leopards live in the mountainous regions of central and southern Asia. In India, their geographical range encompasses a large part of the western Himalayas including the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in the eastern Himalayas. The Nilgiri tahr known locally as the Nilgiri ibex or simply ibex, is an ungulate that is endemic to the Nilgiri Hills and the southern portion of the Western Ghats in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in Southern India. The Himalayan Wolf is a kind of wolf that was thought to belong to the Tibetan Wolf family, but it, in fact, may be its own species, Canis himalayensis. It is usually found in a small part of northern Republic of India, in Himachal Pradesh state and also in Indian Kashmir and, also in the eastern part of Nepal in the Himalayas.
