Denotified Tribes (also known as Vimukta Jati) are the tribes that were labelled by the Britishers as criminal under the Criminal Tribes Act of 1871. These were removed from the list by the Indian government in 1952. However, thus denotified tribes were reclassified as "habitual offenders" in 1959.
