Consider the following statements about the second generation bio fuels:
1. Second generation bio fuels are made from marginal croplands unsuitable for food production
2. India’s first Second Generation (2G) Bio-refinery is proposed to be set-up at Bathinda in Punjab
Which of the above statements is/are correct?
1 Only
2 Only
Both 1 & 2
Neither 1 nor 2
First statement is correct because second generation biofuels are made from marginal croplands unsuitable for food production, or using non-food crops and residues where the biomass is consumed in production. Second statement is also correct because Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is setting up India’s first Second Generation (2G) Bio-refinery at Bathinda in Punjab. The proposed Bio-refinery is expected to generate employment for about 1200 -1300 persons in the Biomass.
