North-Eastern India
Peninsular India
Indus plains
- Ganga Plains: This region has vast alluvial soil and a huge river network. But, it actually does not have the highest surface water resources in India.
- North-Eastern India: This area gets the highest annual rainfall, and rivers like the Brahmaputra and Barak flow here. It has the highest per capita and total surface water resources in the country.
- Peninsular India: Made up of rivers like Godavari, Krishna, and Cauvery, but their flow is limited in the dry season.
- Indus Plains: Located mostly in north-west India; less rainfall and heavy usage make surface water resources lesser.
