Mangrove- plants have higher concentration of salts and minerals (solutes, such as proline and sorbitol) in the cells making their osmotic potential higher than the surrounding water in which they grow. This is a type of adaptation that allows water uptake by the plants in spite of growing in salty waters. Some mangroves also pump out excess salt by specialised roots.
